Political Opinion warning! The situation in Afghanistan, hot topic right as of the time I am writing this and I'm intrigued by the way people have reacted to the event. I was pro the war in Afghanistan but only the initial phase. I am anti-nation building and the other hearts and minds tactics we used to justify our stay in Afghanistan. When the war first started we destroyed most of our enemies within a couple of months and at minimum casualties. We proved why we (United States military) are the best fighting force in the world and why we win wars that we fight as "WARS" However.... the nation building started... We did it partly because of an industrial complex that looks for reasons to perpetuate itself but more so because we "the citizens of the United States" are a good people wanting to help and help we did in fact do. The innocent people living in Afghanistan truly want us there and were thankful for our presence as truly evident by the heart breaking fleeing of the free men, woman, gays, and religious "non-muslim religions" now being killed and oppressed. This has happened because Afghanistan is a tribalistic, medieval, third world, hell-pit. It has always been that way and change will take many generations to happen. More time than it is worth for us to stay; however, we have betrayed them. We have abandoned the innocent and now they are resigned to their fate. Should the Taliban attack us again, I will be pro going back but only to destroy them and leave. I am active duty as of the time I am writing this and many of my brothers and sisters in the armed forces are itching to go back and fight despite popular misconceptions about us. Many of us want to destroy the enemies that threaten our people and help our friends and allies stranded over there.
I will be interested to see what hindsight will tell us about the conflict in the middle east years from now. For now all I have is an opinion.
